We’ve leaned in sardonically on the whole notion that Wall Street’s #MeToo moment has been muted by the industry’s relative ability to act somewhat less monstrously than others. And that lessons learned during previous eras of sexual misconduct scandals have taught financiers the importance of keeping their hands to themselves, making everyone sign an NDA and paying people off to avoid real public embarrassment.
Our whole thesis was always tongue-in-cheek, but we also thought that there was a sliver of truth in the joke. So thanks to Snow Park Capital’s Jeffrey Pierce for disabusing us of any notion that anyone in finance has [allegedly] learned anything…
A former Manhattan hedge fund exec says her ex-boss repeatedly groped her, pressed her for sex and then viciously attacked her when he discovered she was recording him in an attempt to document her ordeal.
Yeah, it’s bad, but it’s also somehow simultaneously even worse.
Based on the report, Snow Park’s CFO, Kate Merli claims in a lawsuit filed Monday that she became a frequent target of the fund’s allegedly aggressively amorous managing partner and CIO Jeffery Pierce, and that he had no compunction hitting on Merli in front of their office mates.
And like any confident investor, it seems that Pierce was fond of doubling down on his “HOT” call on Merli…to her face.
The next day he allegedly appeared in her office, where he refused to apologize for calling Merli “hot” at the bash because “it was true.”He initially approached her at a 2016 holiday party, grabbed her and tried to kiss her, according to the Manhattan Supreme Court suit filed Monday.
The next day he allegedly appeared in her office, where he refused to apologize for calling Merli “hot” at the bash because “it was true.”
Hey, you want a portfolio manager who has confidence in instincts, right? Well, Pierce’s instincts are painted to be pretty fucking terrible when it comes to basic human contact…
The lewd comments continued, the court papers say, and in July 2017 following a work dinner Pierce pawed at her body and begged her for sex.
We like this part the best because “pawing” at your co-worker’s body whilst begging her for sex is the nadir of acceptable office behavior and basic human shamelessness. It’s literally the diagram one would draw when trying to communicate “Terrible Man” to an Amazonian tribe with no verbal language.
But it is also alleged that Pierce was still warming up…
When the CPA refused, he “physically and viciously assaulted [Merli], tackling her to the ground and attempting to wrestle the phone away,” the papers read. Terrified, she deleted the recordings.
If true, we would truly love to sit down with Pierce and discuss how “Tackle her” was the winning option of the panoply of possible actions that popped into his head when he noticed Merli making a recording of him going the full Pat O’Brien on her. There are at least an infinite amount of better ways to have gone about it, especially considering that Pierce is an allegedly voracious beggar.
Snow Park Capital is denying the allegations and Merli is staying quiet, so we’ll have to watch where this goes. And watch we will.
